After 150k the rear brake discs on my 2008 Golf Mk5 estate could do with renewing. To remove the old discs I believe I need to remove the caliper mounting bracket. This is held in position with two splined bolts. The biggest splined driver in my set is M12 but that is too small. Can anyone tell me the size of driver that I need for the bolts please? Furthermore, there is little clearance to get at the top bolt with a ratchet socket driver. Has anyone any tips please? Thank you in advance for your help.

Fortunately YouTube had the answer. For my car I need an M14 XZN Spline Bit. So I've ordered a set of 4 (M12, M14, M16, M18) to complement my tool kit. Cost £21.38 from The Tool Academy Ltd., Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Hi, I recently changed the rear discs on mine. I managed to remove the disc without having to take the carrier off. Once you remove the caliper and pads I managed to angle mine out.

Thanks for that information Bob. When I come to do the job - which won't be just yet - I'll feed back how I get on.

Best tool I ever bought - couldn't do without it now and worth every penny if you do jobs on several family and friends cars like I do.
