Seen this on many forums that Audi (and BMW) suffer from frozen windows that don’t drop properly to let you in your car. I’ve so far managed to get round this mostly successfully with silicone grease and on severe mornings, a credit card inserted between the window and door rubber but it’s a real pain. I cannot believe Audi didn’t spot this in sub zero testing facilities. Anyone know of a less messy solution as I’m starting to turn into Slick Willie with all the grease on me!

On a lot of the detailing pages they mention glass sealant and paint sealant etc, it stop the frost getting a hold on the surface, meaning even if it looks frosty it slides straight off with no resistance. Might be worth looking at something like that.

Brilliant but atad expensive option lol. Relocate or spend £5 on a tub of grease. 🤔

Squirt a jet of de-icer around the window before you try to open it.

Hi,I have a Audi TT MK3 with a window problem following overnight frost.Windows don't retract so unable top close the doors, resulting in not being unable to drive it.Contacted Audi UK , they advised me to book in with my local dealership (again). They carried out a modification by resealing, back in March 18.Had a first frost this morning & ha ho same problem , fortunately the car was still under warranty & the repairs have a further years warranty, so hopefully they can sort it out this time.

I can’t see how they can prevent water turning into ice when it gets cold. A thin layer can be worked around but if you have a thick lump of ice stuck to the window and its pressed wiping rubber, no amount of engineering will get around it. This is why in cold countries they plug their cars in to the mains to keep them above freezing.

Try thumping the glass a few times before you open - it shears the ice where it bridges the gap. Can't say if it works on an A7 as I dont have one but worked for me on a mazda.

Have you tried Krytox for this. Its used for the door seals and in reading stuff about Krytox it can bond with rubber, which is why the door seals are coated with a layer to stop squeaks. It also has very high environmental specs so I've used it on the window edges and have had no issues with freezing.
