Tick over is erratic from 850rpm down to 300ropm back to 850 then 0 and cuts out, not sure if this is related to the hot start?

    Fault codes present are
4074 temperature sensor – gauge on dash works ok
4142 RPM sensor no signal – if this was the case would it run at all?

Cleared codes and ran OK this evening, starting from hot and I noticed the tick over is a little erratic but nothing like before

Sometime when you stop at a junction it just cuts out. Butbeing hot it will not start unless I leave it for about 10/15 minutes, samething happens if I drive it for 10/15 minutes then stop it lock it go shop backto car, within a few minutes and all it does is turn over and over. If I leaveit 10/15 minutes it starts up OK

    Any ideas/help appreciated

The rpm sensors fail when they get hot and then start working again when they cool, this is the usual way they fail, The temp sender is a dual NTC unit where one side feeds the dash and the other feeds the ECU.

It is through the block adjacent to the gearbox flange on the side towards the front of the car, below and to the cars left of the oil filter and it points towards a 60-2 impulse rotor bolted to the back of the number 5 main bearing web of the crank. It is held to the block with a single M6 hex cap bolt which requires a 5-mm hex key.
