    Hi,

Had my 15 plate passat b8 estate gt for 6 months now and love it, however i've noticed when at 2000 rpm is any gear i hear what sounds like a vibration coming from behind the dash somewhere in the centre. Its not the actual dash vibrating itself sounds like its coming from the engine bay, but hen outside the car you can't hear it only when inside the car driving?! It's really annoying while driving at 70 and you put your foot down to overtake!

Anyone had anything similar? coming to the end of its warranty. :-(

    Thanks in advance guys!

It is quite often the engine cover or even just the badge but sometimes a lose air cleaner top.

Did you ever solve the problem? I’ve got the same issue too.

I’d like to avoid taking it to a dealer if possible.

I have the same problem too. I had a long argument with VW over a few weeks when I tried to convince them it existed. They refused to investigate under warranty. It’s now out of warranty and I’d love to find out how to fix it!

Not sure if it’s the same problem but my from new 2015 GT saloon had a similar noise / vibration at 2000 rpm coming from the area you are describing. My dealer worked out that is was a loose pipe and clip(s) used for the heater matrix or something in the engine bay. Sorted in the first year and haven’t had any recurrence since

On the 240 PS bi turbo there is a heat shield over the right hand inner CV boot which can crack and buzz, it should have been removed under a "quality improvement program" but the heater feed pipe issue is the most common reason on cars upto VIN wvwzzz3CzGE172650. There is a full TPI about the issue, 2042131/3

Reading around and this all points to the heater matrix pipes.

According to another forum, Heater pipes going into the matrix were rubbing on a square edged piece of plastic and wedging a piece of rubber in the gap appears to stop the noise.

    No pictures unfortunately.

That’s the thing! Glad we could help. As I said my dealer sorted it out very quickly. You should be able to get it fixed now

I had this on mine. Heater matrix, easily accessed from the passenger side by removing the big plastic trim on the side of the "transmission tunnel" you'll see the aluminium heater matrix, the feeds are probably touching, gently move them apart. I also added some foam for extra NVH properties!
