    Hi folks,

Our 2010 MK6 Golf GTi had two (VW) rear springs replaced recently, one having snapped (due to terrible local road pot holes), the second replaced as precaution due to advancing corrosion.

Since done, one of there rear seatbelts fails to retract at all, but was working just fine prior to the new springs being fitted.

Could this seatbelt issue be a direct consequence of having new springs fitted?

Any pointers welcome as I'm not technically minded!

if belt is twisted it will not retract.pull belt out slowly and see when it comes through the hook , its nice and flat and feed it back in slowly(spring loaded) also have a look the other belt it will give a clue how which way need to be faced in order to retract.

Thanks Engine Idling - much appreciated.

I had a close look, but the seatbelt had been pulled out to its maximum, then pulled on hard and then locked in that position. No movement whatsoever from the belt to be able to feed it back into the housing. In the end I took it back to the garage and they reset the belt after stripping it down, saying they thought while fully extended, the belt was pulled hard and so jamming it in position. All done for a small fee and ten minutes work.

Child No 1 then received a tutorial on how to use a seatbelt, who I now suspect was the culprit!
