    Good morning all!

Right so, my little Audi 1.8t (aum engine code) seems to have developed an issue with the clutch.

Basically I have a very light clutch pedal and can't get the thing into gear, have checked slave and master cylinders for leaks and nothing, bled the system and still no clutch, so I'm looking to undertake the gearbox removal to change the clutch as I believe the pressure plate has collapsed. But before I do just wanted to get a group of experts advice first! For few days before clutch stopped working the bite point was very very low, and suddenly I was finding it hard to get into gear before I lost the ability to get it in gear completely... right now it's making an almighty noise unless I rest my foot on the clutch pedal (I thing it's the release bearing just touching the pressure plate)

What I want to know is what's the chances that it's not the clutch? Are the master or slave cylinders known for failing without leaks? I've kinda drawn out the dmf as there's still drive and no thumping around in the bell housing.

    Any help would be appreciated!

From personal experience when doing a clutch I now a days replace the complete unit, flywheel, pressure plate, friction please and release bearing.

I learnt the lesson years ago save money just do the pressure plate and a few weeks later I was doing the job all over again!!

Sounds potentially like the release bearing has worn its way through the clutch cover spring/ fingers. If you are getting lots of noise its obviously an issue internally and not hydraulics..
