    Hi Guys,
In a6 avant the boot lid doesn't auto retract on boot opening or doesn't extend back out/down on closing the boot... I have tried what they say in manual and it hasn't worked. I believe there are some parts missing on both end of the boot lid that latch onto the metallic wire... If it wasn't dark now I'd take some pics and post them. Anyways, I'm hoping one of you lads might know what exactly is needed to order to sort it out. Many thanks for taking time to help out

First question, do you have the powered tailgate as the auto retraction of the luggage cover only comes with that option (not standard on UK A6 Avants until 2014).

i believe so.. i do a kick motion under the bumper and the boot opens.. i press the button and the boot closes.... i guess boot is the actual area to store stuff in and tail gate is the gate at the tail/backend.. i usually say open the boot/close the boot, never used the term tail gate so may be wrong...

Ok so you do have the powered tailgate (in general saloons have boots and boot lids, estates have tailgates), indeed with kick function you have the upgraded version. The issue then is why the mechanism in the rear pillars is not picking up the cover and moving its as the tailgate opens. Maybe as you say there are parts missing off the end of the cover

    Thanks
Dont want to take it to the dealer as they may suggest to replace the whole shabang as opposed to just ordering the missing parts... May have to do it though

There should be a U shaped support in channel on each side, that the cover slots into guides it to open.

However the default stance for the cover is to be open (if you take the shelf out, it coils up into the unit), so the retaining U's should be there to stop it closing, rather than helping it open.
If you take the shelf out of the guide rails, does it spring back and 'open'?
2015 (FL) A6 Avant BE 2.0 Ultra S-Tronic in Daytona - 19" Wheels (makes it £30 VED), Tech Pack, Parking Pack, Matrix Lights, Storage Pack, Advanced Key, and maybe some other things I can't remember

The U shaped piece in the channel on each side of the opening. When the tailgate is open these will be at the top of channel and as the door closes they move down the channel and cause the load cover to cover the area
