Hi all i,m looking for a bit of advice i have a 2013 Volkswagen Passat Diesel my dads car that he's had from new done 40k and been superb until the other day he put the key in the ignition and it wouldn't start no ignition lights just says imobilser active and has a yellow steering light on the dash, he had noticed a few issues starting it the other day but by taking the key out and putting it back in again it started, Have tried a new key reader, didnt make any difference, akward as i cant get a scanner to communicate due to no ignition lights, also all of the windows went down, was able to get them back up again holding down the lock button, we do have two keys and both are the same.

Any help would be greatly appreciated Many Thanks Dan

Sounds like a problem with the steering wheel lock. Maybe waggling the wheel while inserting the key will allow it to work but if the lock is the problem then you will most likely have to get it replaced. There are several videos for the B6 units.

Maybe a reset to default...disconnect the battery for a while.

Problem solved it appears that the battery was flat although did have enough power to flash the lights upon unlocking as well as unloking the car and also enough juice to put all four windows up but obviously not enough to turn off the steering lock or deactivate the imobiliser, it appears with modern cars you just have to go back to extreme basics, we were to quick to assume the worse and overlook a flat battery, although it was recovered in and seems the recovery guy overlooked a flat battery too.

Thought id post this just incase anyone else has blonde days as well
