  1. TDI engine noise ?

    Hi all,

I recently picked up a Golf TDI and I get this noise sometimes very faint but I can hear it when inside but not in the engine or if it is I can't hear it.. The sound clip is when my phone is sitting on the middle of the dash above the middle vents so you can hear it better than if I hold the phone. This noise is still present when the radio/fans are off

Edit: Only can hear it on idle and goes away with slight revs or the engine drowns out the sound

    Thanks for any input

Do you know if the car has had the emissions recall carried out? This is well known to increase diesel noise, in fact the sub routine in the program that caused the kerfuffle was called the noise reduction routine.

It is very difficult to get a feel for what it is from a recording.

Very true just in hope that someone may have had a similar issue with a similar noise

Have narrowed it down to either the heater matrix is at fault.. or the AC compressor.. noise comes from the heater matrix area in the engine bay but when I press the AC on button the noise goes away

I had similar on relatives 2013 yeti tdi, ac compressor pulley drive plate rivets were loose, there was a lot of metallic rust in the pulley area and noise stopped or at least changed when the ac kicked in. He got a new comp fitted under warranty thankfully.
