    Hey all

I've just changed my mobile tariff to one with loads more data and thought I'd have alook online into what Audi connect is and does. I've managed to get the data from my phone transferring to the car via bluetooth so I can get Google maps on my satnav now (I have tech pack) but I haven't figured out how to get the map or street view displayed on my DIS between the dials. Is that even possible?

I've also set up WLAN but not entirely sure what that's for? transferring music to hard drive? streaming music/movies?

Are there any other interesting features I can now access with data in my car?

    Thanks

It’s not worth the hassle. I have a sim in my 2017 A6 and it gives you the terrain map rather than just the 3D roads. Apart from that Twitter and a clunky news feed are about it.

    Thanks.
I see I can get weather and petrol prices. Parking spaces also mentioned but not looked at that.
Would be interesting if I could get the map between my dials

Just toggle the arrow on the left side of the steering wheel and scroll through the options using the button immediately below the right arrow and use the scroll wheel and make sure you are not on compass.

Also with the map up on the MMI go into settings and configure all the map settings you want to show in the DIS.

WLAN allows you to connect devices in the car to the cars data service - so passengers can surf, get email etc. Useful because the antenna in the car is more powerful than a phone antenna so you may get better coverage in spotty reception areas.

It also means that devices that do not have a data SIM (WiFi only iPads, laptops etc.) can get access to data when in the car. There is a limit on the number of devices that can connect concurrently (5?, 8? Not sure) but should be plenty for most use cases.

I’ve taken advantage of the WLAN in my brothers A6 (in the US - where I am right now) to be able to moderate my use of the horribly expensive EE / T-mobile data add-on that I bought. It’s great, we get in the car and my iPhone flips from 3G to WiFi.

The best use I have for the Audi connect is if I need to go somewhere like client sites I punch it in the phone/watch app and send it to the car so it’s there when I get in. Rather than me keying in postcode/address when I get in the car as it’s a bit of a pain keying in addresses with the rotary knob or touchpad

When you say the app....do you mean Google maps on your phone then it pings to the car?

The rotary knob is a bit cumbersome.

There’s an Audi connect app for the iphone and Apple Watch. Think the newer Audi’s have more functionality like locking/unlocking car.
Think Audi is playing a bit of catch up compared to merc on this front. The other half’s car(3years old now) on the app you can get data like tyre pressures, fuel level and other bits of information on top of that locking/unlocking car, location(tracker like).

    Cheers.
Just searched the Google store and found "myaudi"
I'll connect it to the car later on and see what happens.
    Thanks

You get a crazy setup with the WLAN over rSAP that's hard to explain, but I'll try.

rSAP makes the car take control of the SIM so the mobile device no longer has any apparent network connectivity itself. Using the car's WLAN (on the data it's hijacked off the remote SIM) you can connect that same mobile via WiFi to allow the phone's apps to run. I use Audials or Kiss Kube etc. to access internet radio that bluetooth's (I think) back to the car. I would presume it's possible to use your mobile provider's own app for WiFi calls and texts, but I set my mobile to automatically start Android Auto so there's no temptation to use it although you could access it easily if pulling over.

There may be a less complicated way of playing internet radio on cars of a similar age, but it's just the way I've discovered and it's a useful example of the awkward nature of the connection.

The current £5 iD mobile deal with 2.25 GB + 250 mins is a handy backup for when the bluetooth/rSAP connection drops on a long journey as you can just push the SIM in the slot. You can also cap the cost and the unused data rolls over.
