Quick question - I have a trip down to the Alps planned. I have a company car so can't swap out to steels and winter tyres.

I dont fancy stapping chains to my titanium rotors - has anyone used snow socks - any feedback?

Looking at using them on a FWD C7 A6 FWD.

    Cheers
    Andy

Check the laws out there. Probably wrong but I thought winter tyres and chains are required in winter.

As for the socks I've got a set. Used them once in an emergency. Wouldn't use them for prolonged driving especially if the snow was patchy.

Sock are designed to get you out of a situation not prolonged driving. If you're off to the Alps you will need winter tyres alas. Look on flea=bay. Or try and convince your transport manager of the advantages of winter tyres

I would agree with this, a lot of countries that have snow on a regular basis, i.e the Alps may require you to have snow tyres/winter tyres fitted by law during certain months...

I have winter tyres fitted to one of my cars that I do almost 100 miles a day 4 days a week and they are the best money I have spent... but as you say it is not a company car so I can change to steel wheel during the winter.... I also have Michelin Cross Climates fitted to my other car, which is a Skoda Super 4 x 4 used mostly at weekends, so two sets was not viable as it does about 6000 miles a year, but I must say I am impressed with the Cross Climates... plenty of snow/ice on my driveway which is a steepish slope up and it went up there without any spin....

They may be a good option if you need new tyres anyway.

You're having a laugh - just has a fight to get mine changed on 2.1mm

Just need them to as a get out of jail free card. Driving up to resort, Park up and then out again at the end of the week.

Cheers Stuart - I'm a high mileage driver - 35,000 to 40,000k a year so tend to go for a quiet option - up and down motorways. Running P Zero's all year round - winters are not an option of me as it a company ride. I did look a Superb but was nothing sporty at the time of getting mine. About 3 months after getting mine they released the Sport - very tasty.
