Its snowing here and im sick of the thing!
Ill pull up the carpet and follow the wires that goes through the floor pan toward front of car this must lead to the sensor? I read mk 4 golf has sensor where the sill is nut couldnt feel it and will be easier with carpet up.

The sensor is in front of the seat toward the sill.
I have cleaned up the connections and ran vag again but i am still getting short to ground?
When i remove the plug i get open circuit error instead.
Does this help narrow down the problem?

Well done finding it . Its tricky working on the airbag wiring. I would swap one side with the other and see . I would guess though usually a short to earth is majority of the time the component. Also ties into the water leak you had that has ruined it.

Also if it were my motor , those rubber bungs in the floor i would pearce them with a pointy screwdriver. So if you ever have a leak internally the water gets out.

Yeah. Satisfaction of finding is something! Im trying to dry it out tonight and Ill swap the sensors round tomorrow. If not it must be a break in the wire between the seat and the crash sensor which is only a small section? I would not have to trace back to airbag unit in dash or anything - thats really tightly packed wiring! First things first i suppose I shall swap first.

Also another good idea worth mentioning. Always disconnect the earth on the battery when working on the airbag wiring. Always grab the door striker on the door b pillar before you touch the wiring. And put the ignition to the on position before connecting the battery earth. This way if you have fluffed something up and the worse should happen like the airbag goes off , it goes off while your under the bonnet and not in your face .
