Issue with CarPlay

for me, the display doesn't comeback at all. Also noticed that it's not just the reverse gear, anything I do that changes the CarPlay display, doesn't come back when I'm done with it. CarPlay functions properly thought (only sound wise) like if I was listening to a audio-book or making a call - very frustrating. Happens this morning as well: Was driving kid to school and my wife called whilst Ancient Alien was playing on the screen but I couldn't pickup the phone as CarPlay display didn't come up. Picked up the call from the phone itself but very risky fiddling with this in the morning during the school rush.

I’ve had no issues with iPhone 6S or 8 - is it an X issue?

My wife has an iPhone 7 so will give it a quick test to check if it still works.

Might be worth trying it with a new cable and different iPhone just to rule out a phone / cable issue?

Just tried the iPhone 7 and works fine.

I noticed in the iPhone Settings CarPlay you can reset the connection. Might be worth doing that and “pairing” it again?

okay, so, my CarPlay issue was never fixed - did s/w upgrade, reset etc. etc. - whatever you can possibly do. Hence booked in the car at my local Audi center for inspection (after talking to them). Then they canceled the appointment just the day before, saying the issue is known to Audi but at this time nothing can be done as Audi hasn't released any fix for that. they will contact me in coupe of weeks time to give me an update on that.

This is the answer I received from them, when I asked them to confirm me in email:

I hope my email finds you well; Thank you for your time this morning it was a pleasure meeting you.

As discussed, We are currently aware of an ongoing issue with Audi apple / car play. The application itself does fault and some of the symptoms can be the app not opening and the functions not working. At the present minute Audi have not created a rectification for this issue, However when the fix does become available we will have your vehicle booked in the next available day. We apologies for the inconvenience this may cause but Audi are currently working of the fix.

If I can help in anyway please do give me a call. I’ll be in touch in the future once we are notified.

Not sure if it's fault with the s/w or device, how it's working for others and not for me or few. But that's where it's now.

Same here, MY17 SQ7 and tried used both iPhone7 and X. Annoying!

Have your tried a different cable and the other USB port with a different phone?

If still happening it would seem to be a fault with the car.

Yes, tried pretty much all the combos I believe.
Seems very predictable - works OK, engage reverse or trigger parking sensors and it disappears from the screen and cant be selected again. For me it's not that important as I have all my music on the HDD, just annoying on an expensive car that it happens. I have a Citroen van and the CarPlay works faultlessly, or as it should.
May try a couple of different cables

After nearly four months of trying, I'm very very sure it's not the cable or the phone but the software/device itself. Look at the reply from my Audi dealer - they know it's happening.

I'm not worried about music or anything but risky think is for me is receiving the phone call which it comes (which I pretty much get when I drive) - then you need to fiddle with the phone again, which mis-defines the whole purpose of having a hands-free system.
