Engine light now on, which may be something unrelated, but it begs the question; is there two way communication between the ECU and fan conctroller?

I used to have a 1.9 pd tdi touran which had the intake flap (V157 ) fail, when it failed the fan stayed on continuously. I also had to change the intake flap on a relatives 1.9 fabia whose symptoms were the EML light coming on. I don't see anywhere in your posts that you've run a scan for codes but I suspect you will see a V157 related code for the EML being on, which might also tie in with your fans being on all the time. These throttle flaps / anti shudder flaps seem to fail pretty regular on older higher mileage cars, the ones I had to change had done around 100k and 70 odd k miles.

    Thanks for that advice!

No, I haven't done a scan; I usually get a friend to do it, but he is not around this weekend.

I have ordered a reader. It was something I was getting around to, but as this is the first 'real' fault in two years owning the van, it just hasn't been a priority...

Will post up some more details, later in the week, once I have checked the dtcs and done a component check on the coolant and aircon sensors; see if anything is out of place.

I will read up on those flaps, too!

    Thanks again!

    Code scanner came today

So, I have no dtcs stored, since the aircon guy cleared them on Friday...

Only one dtc pending: P0401 - Low EGR Flow
