    Hi,

Well my 2010 Golf Mk6 (2.0 diesel CFFB engine) never fails to disappoint.

In the past had a faulty EGR valve replaced and the air conditioning compressor. Latest thing to fail is the interior central front light switch/unit and there is a problem with the DAB aerial somewhere. I've also avoided the diesel software update so far.

Anyway, was driving to see family on Boxing Day, momentarily lost a little power and the engine warning lights came on. Restarted a few times but fault repeated, so limped back home. Had a local chap run a quick diagnostic and some faults with the EGR were listed. Interestingly the next day on the way to get the fault codes read, the warning lights had disappeared and the performance seems back to normal.

I just wondered whether anyone has any views on the faults and whether there is anything I perhaps need to do. I need to get the car serviced in a couple of weeks at my local independent VW garage, so can ask the chaps (unfortunately they are on their holidays at the moment so can't ask them for now).

    Many thanks in advance,

    Damian

The Golf's just reminding you it's still there and wants a bit love and attention. You don't say how long ago fitted and if the replacement EGR was OEM ( I believe these OEM coolers / valves come with 2 year warranty)
The coolant looks on the cool side as well as the EGR fault, unless it had only been running a few minutes.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

EGR was replaced back in 2012 by the dealer, so out of warranty.

Had done an hour up the M6 before it faulted, just come off at Stoke to avoid the (usual) queues, so not just started the engine.

Ok, if the engine is straight off a decent run I'd ask them to look at your thermostat(s) as well as the EGR during the service then, as it's running cool.

    Possible Cause:
    Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active.
    Reduced Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR).
    Reduced Power Output/Engine running rough.
    Increased Emissions.

    Wiring/Connector(s).
    Hose leak/blockage.
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Flow restricted/clogged.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System faulty.

    Possible Solutions:
    Check/Replace all faulty Wiring/Connector(s).
Check/Clean Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System.
    Read Measuring Value Blocks (MVB).
Check/Replace Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve.
