I posted this finding in a similar thread above>

My car is only 18 months old and does a low annual mileage and this Winter the Start/Stop isn't available some of the time which is a blessing as I disable it anyway. However I do like things to work if meant to.
I do less than 100 miles a week with a lot of load on the battery this time of the year including heated seats and so on and so would expect the S/S system not to work until the battery reaches optimum charge which it does given an decent run, when suddenly it will start working again.
There are so many parameters which need to be fulfilled to keep it functioning so I no longer worry. It is obviously a nuisance that nowadays we cannot simply swap our batteries for a new one, relatively cheaply and easily without going through all the hassle with the main dealers should a replacement be deemed necessary. So much for advancement

It's not an advancement at all, the first car I ever came across with this system was the 1979 Audi 80 1.6 LS Formel E which had the M271 stop start automatic system, it was a total pain in the **** and everyone turned it off. Then VW launched it in the Polo and Golf Formel E and it was available as late as 1986 on the Golf 2. Have you seen the price of a 110 fitting AGM battery for Stop/start? £270 for a Yuasa, just bought one for a Golf 2 VR6 turbo project car, it is going under the rear seat so needs to be powerful and last a long time plus leak proof. When you think about it, what is actually "new" in cars technology? All of it is ancient, you would think that the "Lohner-Porsche Mixte Hybrid" was some latest 2018 concept car but it was built by Ferdinand Porsche one hundred and nineteen years ago for Kaiser Wilhelm II!
