    Hi All,

I had the car in to VW today for the cambelt and water pump. They advised of an oil leak somewhere near the alternator but couldnt locate it. I've had a good look myself I can see that a lot of oil may have been spilt when it was topped up in June as the oil cover and part of the engine cover have a fair bit of oil on them. Looking under the cover the highest concentraction is on what I think is the EGR (its in a very different place to my old bora) and on the underside of the dipstick. I've included a picture here. The oil is just above the minimum mark now but I didnt check it after the service so dont know how full it was before. I'm going to monitor over the next week and see if it moves at all. Have a look at the picture and if anyone has any ideas on what I can check let or if they know from experience what it could be let me know!

    Thanks...

The flying saucer to the right of the dipstick is the egr actuator diaphragm, its not unusual to be getting an oily build up round there. Clean it all up and monitor for the time being, a little bit of oil can go a long way so unlessyou have a regular drip on to the road when parked up i suspect it will just be long term residue buildup.

Thanks Rob. The oil is all over the underside but none of it looks new. I'm going to keep any eye on the oil level this week as it's just over the minimum line at the moment.

I removed my EGR on my pd130 due the fact it was peeing out oil. I thought the environmental impact of old oil everywhere wasn't worth the pointless emissions reduction.

Just checked on this again today and its definitely leaking. Not huge amounts but it was Beeding and has lost maybe 150ml of oil in a couple of months. Any idea what sort of cost I'm looking at for a replacement? I can see euro car parts have the replacement egr for about 77.
