Brake Pad Warning - Costs?

Ahh the flaming brake pad/discs fiasco

So the price I originally saw and you are seeing now is correct and what I paid....

The lower price which I saw on the day is an error and took Audi about 3 days to fix. I provided some feedback to Audi CS who came back really quickly in all fairness and explained that website was undergoing an update and was bringing back incorrect price.

However my feedback did get me a ‘gesture of goodwill’ of a free next service

I did also check the price on my original 65 plate Q7 and that mirrored the price that jldiablo was seeing - so definitely some change in the MY16 and MY16 v2 which has the reinforced floor

Hi Retom, can you provide more details on this please? My local Audi specialist is saying I need to change discs n pads for both front and rear. Also I am now having a parking brake fault - came out of no where. The technician said, it's coz the pads are running low which I find hard to believe.

Has anyone else faced parking brake faults when pads are low?

I got the following quotes for replacing front & rear discs and pads;
- Audi Wolverhampton : £749 (front discs & pads) | £575 (rear discs & pads)
- Local garage using OEM parts sourced directly from dealer : £737 (front discs & pads) | £300 (rear discs & pads)

Yes you get a fault when pads are low. There ware sensors in the pads. The dealership must have checked and confirmed that your discs are thin as well, hence recommended a complete pads and discs change. They are quite expensive, and doesn’t seem many cheaper alternatives around.

The price from Audi Wolves isn’t bad at all as I remember mine was initially quoted as £2k and then reduced to £1650ish or something? It’s all somewhere in this thread.

Depending on how old your Q7 is worth popping your Reg in to this and seeing what the Audi Fixed Price is (but this is for cars over 3 years old)

Replacement of discs and pads is not very complicated and can be done by almost every garage. Almost every - since for the rear discs&pads there is a need a computer with a special procedure. However majority of garages have it. This is CA 2 hours job.
In terms of prices, you have to make your own calculation. All needed parts you will find here: https://www.*******.co.uk/car-parts/...113153-3-0-tdi
If you don't have OEM numbers make your search based on your car PR numbers. Recommend pads: Textar, TRW , Brembo and ATE, discs; Brembo, Zimmermann, TRW (rear), Textar or ATE. All these producers supply AUDi for the first assembly. In Q7 you have probably Brembo or Zimmermann discs, Akebono calipers, Textar and TRW pads. You will need also 4 brake sensors. Brake sensors are not a "rocket technology" and you can choose cheaper as ABS.

PS. Yes, parking brake error is caused by worn brake pads.

Thank you all for prompt replies. I am getting my car checked by another garage just for a peace of mind and then decide if I should change the discs and pads straight away. Will keep you guys posted

If you have the warning brake light do not delay the replacement too long. Usually it should be done within max. 300-500 miles.

Retom, I don't have any brake warning lights yet, brakes work fine and no squeeky noises yet. The only error on the dash is the 'Parking brake fault'. I am looking to change them if needed anyhow. Hopefully the parking brake fault will clear when I change the pads and discs.

I have seen worn rear pads cause a parking brake error when the pads are low.

Thanks Crasher, glad that its nothing else I went to a few other garages today and they all reccomended changing the pads, apparently discs got some more life on them. Need to get it booked in now.

While we are at it, can I ask if anyone managed to source drilled& grooved discs for Q7, is it possible without changing the calipers? I couldn't find much on the web but found a video on Q7 being upgraded to Brembo GT series brakes, and have to say they look damn good. Found a source that quoted an eye watering £4.5k for this upgrade kit.
