Urgh.. 25K on the clock and brake pad warning has come on

Dealer has quoted me £360 for fronts (inc fitting/parts/vat) and £335 for rears (inc fitting/parts/vat). I'm going to hook car upto the computer and see which ones are low, its funny the warning doesnt say if its fronts, rears or both (?)

I found this thread ( Brake warning lamp) but wasnt sure what the final outcome was..

Anyone else had pads done and happy to share what you paid? Wondering whether to buy parts (say from TPS) separately and get dealer to fit. Avoid un-needed markups.

    Thanks in advance

    Andy

The pad warning system is not diagnostic linked. We seem to be doing a lot of 4M brakes, they appear to be heavy on them and it is no use just doing the pads, my TPS delivery driver tried that on his cousins 4M and they felt awful. We fitted genuine parts as he works at TPS but you also need sensors, Pagid are great and last just as well.

Crasher, thanks for your comments, very insightful.

I'm doing a bit more research into options so will let all know how this goes.

Does anyone else have experience of new pads/discs on their 4M yet?

    Thanks!

    Andy

Interesting, I'm on a 36 month/36K mile PCP so will be interesting to see if I get clobbered for brakes before the end of the contract.

Crasher is correct. The brake pad warning is not diagnostic connected. There is a sensor on the pad that wears through and activates the warning. I found the left hand front inner pad had tripped my warning. If you replace the pads you will need to make sure you buy the sensor also.

One other thing, when bemoaning pads only lasting 25k miles, our new 79 Fiesta went through its first set of pads, killing the discs, in less than 5k miles, days after its first service at the Ford dealer and less than a year old..... Those pads were half the thickness of modern ones but the Mk1 Fiesta weighed less than a 4M's glovebox lid....

Car is booked into dealer for Thursday next week. I've spoken to Master Tech directly and he thinks it should in theory just be front pads. Discs 'should' be ok.

    Let see what pans out....

    Hi Andy,

I had my front brake pads replaced around 30000km by genuine Audi parts for 315€ by a friend who works at Audi. Right now the car has about 54000km on the clock and I didn´t get a warning yet, but looking at the brake pads, I think I will be replacing both front and rear brake pads soon. Here in Germany, we don´t have any non-genuine brake pads that are allowed to be sold yet.

And a side remark...where you already able to have a look at a new set of brake pads for the Q7? I did...and they are awefully thin. If i compare those to new brake pads of my A3, they look like toys...I guess it all comes down to weight reduction these days...
