Hopefully someone can help me with this issue.
My Mk6 golf 2.0Gt Tdi was in for MOT yesterday and has failed due to the fog lights not working. Although only the rear was the failure of the test, both front and back do not work. The bulbs look fine on inspection, when the fogs are switched into the on position there is no icon displayed on the dash. It was also noticed that the dipped beam lights stay on constantly even when the switch is turned to the off position. The car does NOT have the auto headlights function, the headlights are halogen the car is a 2012 model.

If anyone has any suggestions, I do have VCDS so can investigate further

    Thanks

    Ben

Sounds like a faulty switch. Dipped beams stay on by default if the bcm knows the headlight switch is faulty.

Ah, that may explain things. I will look to buy a new switch and see if that corrects things

Push the dial knob in turn to right and pull at the same time and the switch should come out easily.

I removed it last night and when unclipping the multipin connector there was no change and lights stayed on. I think the replacement switch cost should be a lot lower than an auto electrician so will try the replacement first

That is a problem in the central electrics unit, does it show any errors and have you been "tweaking" anything?

When scanned, the only error codes relating to the the exterior lighting were from the disconnection of various plugs to check for anything loose.
There was also 1 code for the rear heated screen switch that I noticed.
I used vagcom to turn off the cornering fog lights a while back so do wonder if the instructions that I found online have been incorrect. I know someone with a similar spec car so have arranged to check the long coding in their central electrics module against what I have on mine and also try their headlight switch.

    UPDATE
After checking the long coding on a friends vehicle of a similar spec I decided to change all coding to the same as theirs, obviously making a note of what was changed. After trying this out I found that nothing changed and the issue was still there so decided to investigate into the fault code of rear windscreen heater, the fuse was ok but upon checking some others I noticed fuse 12 had blown. A check online suggested this was for the rain sensor but my car does not have this function, anyway after changing out the fuse this for some reason unbeknown to me has corrected the issue and has also cleared the rear screen heater fault.
The electronics on cars these days seem so sensitive that one slight issue can cause another in an alternative place

I don't see how the rear fog lap failed as there is only one on the right, the other side is the reversing light. That's VW being cheap skates for not fitting 2 of each.

Do you have a fuse & relay diagram for your 2012 Golf?

You say you have VCDS. Have you done an AutoScan to see if anything shows? You can test any system out as well.
