does anybody know what this plastic piece is

If you are talking about the box right at the front, that is the air intake for the ventilation system; Audi somehow "lost" the top of mine during a replacement of a Xenon bulb which required removal of the bumper. I didn't realise for some time. It was eventually found at the bottom of the engine bay during later work! No wonder we could not get cool in summer as it was sucking in all the hot air from the engine bay.
