Help i need to get the car started but no gearbox

Hi guys ive just picked up a 2.0tdi sline with the cvt gearbox in the boot of the car as the gearbox is knackered, now the problem I have is I want to hear the engine run so im thinking bolt the gearbox back on the engine so I can reconnect the starter. But will the engine still start if there is no ecu on the gearbox, if no it wont start how do I get around the problem ??

ok so I have now got the starter motor fitted back to the engine, I have done this by cutting a section of the old gearbox off that the starter mounts onto. I have also connected the tcu to the cars wiring, but when I try and start the engine it does nothing its like the gearbox is in drive or reverse which stops the engine from starting until the gearbox is in park or neutral.
So my question now is how do I bypass this ?? is there a relay or a switch somewhere??

Ive not got the engine running buy linking out the starter relay that sits under the engine ecu in the engine bay
