    Hi All,

I'd really appreciate any advice...I've recently noticed a wiff of blue smoke and lumpy idle for 5 seconds on start up from cold. After that it runs smoothly and no smoke. It has only done 68k, has been regularly serviced and doesn't get abused!! Is this a common fault with the 2.7/3.0 and is there a good sound way of diagnosis ie will a VAGCOM definitely source the problem?

    Thanks

Most likely injector/s problem. What rail pressure do you have on idle and startup? Does it happen on cold or warm engine? Cold or hot outside temp?

Hi, Thanks for the reply...haven't got access to diagnostic gear for the rail pressure but it only happens when the engine is cold. No sign of smoke when warm. Outside temps have also been on the cool side. What would be the best way forward to accurately diagnose this? Thanks

Just thought of another potential symptom. Occasionally if the car hasn't had a long run and hasn't warmed up and the engine is stopped for a short while and then restarted...it starts very quickly with a vroom as though there was an excess of fuel in the chambers. It settles back immediately but I wondered if there is a link now that you mentioned injectors. Thanks

Yes this could be a cause of an injector fail. This doesn’t mean it is broken. It just doesn’t work in it’s parameters. Occasionaly when you start the car with warm engine, does it happen to hesitate starting? I mean, you put the key inside, turn the key to give power and turn the key to start engine but it hesitates and the lights are flickering and then it starts as normal. Just take the injectors out and put them on a stand. Your injectors are piezo electric bosch so you have to find someone with piezo electric compatible stand so he can make the tests. It is very easy to disassemble the injectors. Remember to change the copper seal and the o ring on the injector itself.
