Relays didn't help. All they can think is cam or crank sensor.

Have a look at my thread, link below.

Yes, different engine but they have a fairly similar wiring layout for many components.

Thanks for the link. The garage had the car for a week. They drove it repeatedly with a code reader attached. No fault codes. They changed a couple of relays and inspected the wiring and earth connections. They have decided it isn't a sensor fault.

The best way of describing the fault is that the engine surges briefly, struggles for a bit and recovers. If I am quick enough I can dip the clutch and release the throttle as I begin to feel the surge and the revs continue to increase for a short period as if the throttle is being pressed.

The garege can only think that a track is breaking up inside the ECU. The ECU can be sent away for testing but it is unlikley to show a fault as it seems to need to be in the car under load before the fault happens.

I could have the ECU replaced at a cost of about £500. There is no guarantee that this will fix the problem. And this money is on top of the £400 I have alredy spent.

I may try and give the car a good workout over the Christmas holidays to see if I can get it to fail properly. Or I might give up and buy a different car.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Could it possibly be oil drawn from intercooler that is allowing partial run away at times.

Sorry for my late reply. Could be. Just had to top up the oil for the first time since August. How would the oil get in via the intercooler? Can I check? Wouldn't be turbo bearings?
