Ac conditioner won't blow hot air. Only cold

Hi there,
I have been the owner of a golf 4 1.6 SR for the last couple of months. I have used the AC clima all the summer, but never tried it with hot air.
Today I checked it, and it blew only cold air, even though I chose the max temperature.

Is there anything I can check by myself? Is this an expensive fix?

A blocked heater matrix, a very very comon problem on older P34 platforms which use a matrix almost identical to the Golf 2 which was very prone to a blocked matrix due to poor maintenance. It is virtually impossible to flush the problem away and the only proper solution is to replace the matrix, it is a cheap part but takes two days to fit.

A quick update.
I noticed that the car temp was low even though I was riding for miles. I changed the thermostat, and it seems that it's blowing hot air finally.
Hope that this was the solution. Anyway I have to test it on the highway again.
