hi

i'm getting a whining noise coming from center just under the gear lever.
the whine is speed related and starts above 25mph no matter what gear im in or even in neutral.
the noise only just started last week.

3 months ago i spent over 500 quid getting the gearbox oil and filter replaced so i really dont think its the gearbox.

i have a feeling its coming from the front diff, has anyone got any experience on this problem?

also if i was to replace the front and rear diff oil what grade of oil should i use, my local motor factors dont list it and i cant seem to find any info on this.

Is that a defined service interval or piece of mind ?

I was told the gearbox was sealed for life but reading posts on the forum about major issues etc so decided to get oil changed, at over 500 quid is a hard choice but decided to keep the car for longer.

The sealed for life statement only relates to the gearbox warranty period. They do need regular servicing.

Finally got to the bottom of this

Altho the noise seem to come from the centre ie. In the transmission tunnel, in my case it was in fact the osf wheel bearing that was causing the rumble.

I was actually very surprised as I would normally have heard it coming from the wheels but I guess this 1 fooled me this time, I am also glad it was nothing to do with gearbox.
