Long story short: I need AWD vehicle to tow jet ski. Since I don't like to keep multiple cars at the same time, this one will also become my primary car. Hence, it also must be comfortable and good looking. I loved the look of A7 since its release, and I still like it today. Looking at 2012 3.0 BiTDI (hate diesel, but after 6 months of search didn't find any petrol A7 worth to consider) with 120.000 KM. It was bought from local dealer and is still maintained there, so comes with full history (still no repairs as of today). Thing I like most - car is fully loaded. I mean, it has every single checkbox ticked in options list. Thing I hate most - German "quality". Did basic search on this forum and other places, and found some stories (not many) about coolant leaks, electronic glitches, and replaced gearbox and engines, which scares me...

I know this type of stuff happens to any maker, but after owning 4 Lexus (also had 1 German car, and it was a terrible experience) I developed a bit different understanding on what reliability is. So when I see a post like "My _car_make is super reliable, 20.000 KM on the clock and no problems yet", it makes me smile. In short, I want to know how A7 meets my understanding of reliability. Here's the list of cars I had and their problems (all bought used and with full history so I know every single repair since 0 KM), so if anyone could compare and tell me how his A7 stands in such a list, that would greatly help me to make the final choice. Obviously, I won't count normal wearing part replacements as repairs... Here we go...

    Lexus RX
    50.000 KM: O2 sensors replaced
Sold at 90.000 KM, no other problems.

    Lexus IS
170.000 KM: Xenon leveling module failed
Sold at 185.000 KM, no other problems.

    Lexus LS
100.000 KM: driver's side mirror didn't unfold sometimes, fixed by updating software.
180.000 KM: air suspension started leaking
230.000 KM: air conditioning started leaking
240.000 KM: Xenon leveling module failed
Sold at 250.000 KM, no other problems

    Lexus GS:
65.000 KM today, no single repair yet.

Or maybe I'm worried too much and A7 stands pretty well in this list?

I’ve had my A7 since new in 2013 and is the bitdi also. I always look after my property and this has been no different. I’ve had a few minor issues but nothing major and nothing that’s cost me money to fix - all warranty jobs and nothing that I remember in the past 18months.

I considered RX Mk3, but they only offered 450h in Europe, which is actually FWD vehicle, and rear wheels are only activated when front wheels start slipping. And rear wheels are only driven by electric motor then, so I believe A7 will perform much better.

Plus, I don't like the way it looks (exterior and interior), it's super slow, and has way less toys than A7

Most issues with gearbox it was in version with s-tronic(Audi) , bi-tdi has tiptronic(ZF) which with proper servicing is bulletproof. Aslo as you mentioned before audi have quattro , proper awd, where lexus one is rubbish

Thanks for the input. Did anyone here change air suspension already? How much did it cost? Since car has 120.000 KM, I guess air suspension is at the end of life, and an expensive repair is on the way (don't know how much Audi charges, but Lexus charged 5.000 EUR to replace 4 air struts).

As far as I remember no issues with struts , there was issue with air compressor but not huge amount to pay . 120 000 km is not a lot for suspension struts , i have seen some having over 200 000km and no a single repair. Keep in mind there professional companies who refurbish struts and they will give you warranty for 2 years . Rough cost of refurbishment is 400-500 euros per strut.

Well, our roads are very bad, I don't know (neither dealer) any car that made more than 150000 km with air suspension in this country

It's one of small EU countries where air suspension is considered as a problem instead of advantage, since nobody wants it. The car I'm looking at is already discounted a lot because all the potential buyers run away after they know the car is equipped with air struts.
