Given how good winter tyres are now, it does seem outdated as chains aren't needed with the correct tyres. I have Pirelli Scorpion All Season 285/40 R21 all round (changed from Continentals a couple of months ago) but there's not a lot of point risking antagonising the gendarmes.

I've got the vignette for crit air Crit'Air clean air stickers - need to know for driving in France | RAC Drive

    I've also got :-
    - hi-vis vests
    - bulb kits
    - breathalyser kits
    - warning triangle

so I might as well have the chains as well.

I once helped push a Brit driver's Vovlo out of a snow covered car-park in Zell am See and he took the view that there was no point in him having snow-chains, as he only needed them once a year when he took a skiing holiday. And yet he was stuck, in a car-park Google Maps and was a menace to other vehicles.
I'm not bothering with the clean air sticker either. It's only currently required in the city centres of Paris, Lyon, Grenoble and Lille. I'm not planning on stopping in those. For me it'd be like driving to Birmingham and paying the London congestion charge.

Plus, I'm told even in these cities it isn't really being enforced. I went to Paris last minute in August without one, and was worried a little. I only saw two cars in my whole time there with them on and locals told me no one is getting them, or getting fined.

Same with the breathalysers, they are officially a legal requirement, but there is no penalty for not having one. They scrapped it ages ago, effectively getting rid of the law without going to the trouble of repealing it.

Not sure that 109V means they are summer tyres. Just looked on Pirelli web site. They show the 285/40R21 all season at 109Y but the 275/40R21 all season at 107V.

Bizarre. When you enter the Q7 MY16 into the tyre selector on Pirelli website for me it comes up with the Scorpion Verde, P Zero and Scorpion Winter. But not the all season tyre. Maybe some reason behind why they are not available here?

It is strange, but two weeks ago that 285/40r21 109V wasn't even on the Pirelli site. Wonder if it's going to be out soon?! The one for sale on Asda tyres and all the independent sites is a 109Y, which Pirelli told me was the summer. I even ordered two sets to check! Not ordering another.

Or maybe the All Season is a Porsche fitment tyre they told me about on the phone, they said it was only being sent to China. Not sure why it'd suddenly show on the Pirelli UK site.

Phew - in an ironic way - I just bought a set of K67's of Amazon a couple of days ago for my Q7 at £330 which is still the price...

I have an sq5 and need snow chains I already have allseason tyres, I wondered what chains you had and if you fitted them to the rear or front I know space is very limited at the front. I am trying to find out if the Polaire GRIP polyurethane front-fitting snow chains fit an sq5 with 20 inch alloys 255 45 20 tyres. I have translated a German motering website and they said they worked really well but on a Audi A3 apparently they are only 7mm thick so they might work it would be good to know before i buy or fit and destroy the front steering/suspension.

Manual says only install snow chains on the front wheels. I’ve got the above ones I mentioned and they fit my 285/40/21 fine (Q7). Need to get my winters on soon...

I had a 2014 SQ5 and the snow chains were rear fit only. The ones I had were Thule XG-12 Pro size 255 which fitted my 20 inch winters. I say 'fitted', never used them!

Now have an SQ7 and chains are front fit only. You need to double check manual to confirm which end they fit.
