    Hi Guys

    (1.9TDI PD engine)

    Hopefully you can help!

Recently had my check engine light come on with the code P0183 fuel temp sensor. I have changed the sensor and reset the light but the fault light comes back.

Have now tested the old sensor with a multimeter and it appears to work with the resistance changing during a temperature input.

Have checked other sensors on the engine with the ignition on,they are all getting a 5V supply.

However my fuel temp sensor is only getting a 2.5V supply but it is showing a good earth. So the wires not broken.

Any ideas on a next step. I'm stuck for ideas.

Should it actually be a 5V supply?
    ECU fault?
Is there two fuel temp sensors?

    Many thanks in advance!!

That specific sensor doesn't appear to have its own fuse. There is also a voltage there.

I'm pretty sure the sensor should be supplied 5V from the ECU, like most other temperature sensors. The fact you have 2.5V at the sensor (measured against a known good ground) could mean either there is a high resistance between the sensor and the ECU, or the wire is shorted to ground. Reading the temperature on the scan tool (sensor connected) will tell you which it is.

Assuming it's a common NTC sensor, a short to ground will cause the measured value to be higher than the true temperature. A high resistance in the wire will cause the measured value to be lower than true.

swap over the fuel sensor with the coolant temp sensor, should be the same sensor I think

new sensors can be just as faulty, is it OEM from VW ?

in the fuel filter there is a temp control valve,if its caput, it might be letting cold fuel through all the time causing the prob-ie -it usually recirculates until fuel up to temp, then opens and starts to return to the tank-via the cooler under the drivers seat(under the car.haha) so as not to create to much condensation in the tank !!--its a long shot, but worth a looksee---No ????
