    Help!

I went to start the car this morning and when i put the key in the ignition, the normal steering unlock noise isnt occuring. Instead i'm getting a message on the dash saying please remove load off steering wheel. The car is parked in a straight line, there is no load on the steering wheel at all.
When I put the key in I can hear what sounds like a relay clicking 4/5 times but nothing else happens.

I have tried the unusual tactics in a post online regarding forcing the steering wheel round through some horrible clicks then back again etc.. which was horrible but made no difference.

When I checked this morning the MMI was reading 100% battery - although it is the first noticabley cold morning of the year. However after about a hour of trying key in key out etc.. etc.. the battery is now showing 10% so im not sure if its a battery issue or that playing has simply drained it - im getting a jump pack tonight.

I have a bluetooth obd reader, but because I cannot get the ignition to come on the module wont power up!

    What can I do?!

I have heard that it could be a relay, but am not sure where the relays for this are located?
Is there a way anyone knows to enable the obd module to gain power without the ignition?

If I need to get relayed to the garage is there any way to release the parking brake? I can flip the switch to enable the autobox to go into neutral, but cant figure out how to release the parking brake, when I try nothing happens - im assuming its because the ignition is off?

Any help or suggestions would be most gratefully received. At the moment I have no idea how to move this problem forward other than buy a new car! lol

    HELP!

There is a known problem about this for your model presuming you have a6 c6. The steering column calculator has a relay on it that burns. It happens suddenly. You can do it yourself, but you have a lot to dissasemble. Order the relay and if you are good at dissasembling, do it yourself. You need to stick it on the motherboard.

This is the name of the relay ACT512 and it you can order it here:
ACT512 - PANASONIC ELECTRIC WORKS - Automotive Relay, SPDT, 12 VDC, 20 A, ACT Series, Through Hole, Solder | Farnell element14
I don’t know for sure if you can order it from this site since I am from romania. Just search for it on the internet.
To open the parking brake in case you tried everything just use 2 wires on plus and minus of a battery on each motor left and right until it opens.

    It is the C6 yes.
Is there someway to confirm this is definitely the problem before I go through the steps? Where about is the board which has this relay on it?
Also is there a way to read any fault codes while I cannot turn the ignition on?

    Thanks

Yes you can read the fault codes just insert the diagnose tool as you usualy do and press central yellow lights or use left or right just to give some voltage to ecu. The error code will help you identify the exact problem if there is any error

Slight update, although no further forward.

After trying most of the morning with the key in - key out etc.. the battery went flat!
Ive had charge on the battery and trying now, things seem even more dead than before - this morning when I put the key in i could hear a relay clicking, whereas now that clicking isnt occuring anymore, also it was coming up on the centre dash with the please remove load off steering wheel error, where as the dash isnt coming on anymore.

I have pulled both 370 relays, and whilst I cant test them at the moment with a multimeter, they do look a bit burn - but they both do. Does anyone know if the 370 relays are related and is it not unlikely they could have both gone pop?

    Thanks

Update on this for anyone else who gets this.
Got the car eventually to a garage via a flatbed and skids!

Diagnosis is the ignition module on the steering column, but my garage have sent the column off to a electrics specialist company who are confident they can fix the module - presumably as above replacing the relay or similar.
Cost likely to be £300 including lifetime guarantee, rather than the super expensive main dealer route ££££.

Do they replace the motor for the steering column in this money?
I mean the phisical part that unlocks your steering. This should be changed no matter what.

Im not sure at this point what they will change - I know its on its way to them at which point they will diagnose what needs "fixing" and "fix" it... whether thats just the electronics or electronics and motor etc.. im not sure.

Why do you say the motor needs changing no matter what? Age?

    Cheers
