Well imagine that normally the phisical part should brake first and not the electronic. So at some point you will need to replace it. For 50-100 euros or less it doesn’t worth the struggle.

I'll raise the question and see what they say whilst its all apart - from what I have read the module is fixed onto the steering column via sheer bolts, so it might be harder to physically replace that bit than the electronics, but im certainly no expert. I will ask though :-)

Hey what’s the news about this? I now personally have problem with the motor itself. Sometimes it doesn’t block the steering wheel. Besides this, works fine

I had the steering column sent off and fixed via my garage - its returned and works as normal now. Apparently the fixed the failed / burnt out bits in the module.

Glad to hear that! So it was the module. How much did you pay? Like you said?

Hi can you give details of the company who refurbed your steering column actuator module. I’ve been considering this fix for a while now.

Hi there, I'm across the pond in Florida and my 05 Audi A6 / C6 just had this dreaded "no ignition" lock out problem.
After tons of research, I found the following intel and hopefully it will help someone.

    1. Get the car running again, so it won't have to be towed.
Scan the car (ideally with a CAN BUS scanner). I'm using the VCDS from RossTech, which I got just for this issue but I'm sure will help me down the road with other things...
To wake up the car's electronics, so it will talk to the scanner:
    - Turn on Emergency Flashers
    - Turn on High Beams
    - Put your foot on the brakes
Put the key in the ignition and turn it like you normally would turn on ignition.
Once the scan is complete, it should give you the "00288" Access Start Authorization/Steering Lock fault.
    Clear that fault.
The ignition will come on and everything should work.
This is likely a temporary fix and the problem will occur again until the module is fixed.

My options were much like yours.
    1. Take the car to the dealer and pay US$2,500++ for a new steering column. Because according to Audi, that module is a "non serviceable" part, so they replace the entire steering column... which means the new module will need coding or it won't work with your car. They used LocTite to set the screws because this part was never meant to go bad - duh. Thanks, AUDI.
    2. Remove the module and/or steering column and send it in to have the module fixed, which in the US is about US$400 plus shipping both ways.

Anyway, at the moment I'm driving the car ONLY WITH MY TRUSTED LAPTOP and VCDS Scanner... LOL It's very temperamental, locked me out twice this week - three times total in 2 weeks.
    So, wish me luck.

Yeah, I had the module removed and sent it in to have it fixed. Wasn't fixable, so he replaced it by cloning it on a refurb. It's been running like a champ ever since.
