advice please

I've had my Passat for a few months now (2.0 tdi 2010) and recently started getting some problems.

fault code:

p0544 exhaust temperature sensor

also coil light is flashing

to be honest I've let it be up there for a little bit and now I'm getting issues with starting it, it would start and cut out instantly if I keep trying it will start and act normal.

the only fault code I'm getting on the obd scanner is the exhaust sensor, I'm a complete novice when it comes to repairing cars but surely they're not related?

any advice greatly apreciated.

Hi arkenm, I recently had to replace my EGT sensor as it had been faulty for sometime, when I say sometime, it would be around a year. Intermittent fault that would ping up on the dash usually after long motorway journeys. Long story short, I would advise to get it sorted as soon as. Just before I replaced mine it started to throw up errors relating to the colant fan and I had noticed that the engine fan would run almost constantly, this may also stop regeneration if the temp readings are all off. I Had mine replaced by a local Indy for £200. It is quite a fiddle where it is located. I was quoted £475 from a main dealer.
