[QUOTE=michael306;1074758]No, key light doesn’t flash when it’s not starting. Sometimes it will cough trying to start but generally just turns over. Normally let it turn over for around 5 seconds then try again. Always starts normally on 4th or 5th time. Was just doing it when cold but now if left for 20 30mins won’t start. Will check the return pipes[/Q

have you checked the glow plug strip fuse ?? cant just remember where it is but will nip out and check an get back to you !

yeh i was wrong no strip fuse, its relay and fuse.--return pipe is pressured back to tank-so you would see if there was a weep, the feed pipe sucks so it could be drawing bit of air-and it would be letting it drain back to tank--so turn turn turn untill it draws enough fuel to start !!!

what is the rpm speed when the starter is turning over the engine ?

I would try a spare key and consider replacing the glow plugs

A VAG thing is switch the ignition on , let glow plugs go out , wait another 2 seconds & then try to start car. The glow plugs still heat up after the glow plug light goes out

A good test will be tomorrow morning

    So for me

    1) Check battery for dud cell(s)
    2) Check crank speed of starter or fuel will not run
    3) Check glow plugs
    4) Try spare key

That may well be, I know a few VAG cars that wont start until the glow plug light goes out

Its ignition on , put seatbelt on & then start car. I don't know what the car does or the ECU is doing some check, but it works
