    Hey

I've recently bought my first VW, it's a 56 plate Passat 2.0l TDI 140 SE. Not sure what engine code it is and I'm not sure how to check but I couldn't see it in the log book. If anyone's wants me to check out what engine code it is but can point me in the right direction I'll have a look, no problem.

Anyway I've been googling the belt change intervals and eventually came across this page PASSAT B6 SERVICE INFORMATION - PASSAT now out of the 2 groups of engine codes my car can be it says no time scale is advised and it's either 120k or 150k? Am I reading that correct? From what info I could find my car last had it's belt changed at approximately 70k in 2011 and it has now done around 117k 6 years later, I was thinking it needs doing asap but not for a long time if that page is correct?

    Any advice would be great

Your engine code should be on a label in the boot area near the spare wheel its about the size of a fag packet and has lots of numbers and letters on it.
As for the belt if it was me I would just replace it along with the water pump hth

It's a PD engine and 2006 so 75k whichever comes first. Your belt needs doing asap. For 2007 PD engines it is roughly 93k and Common Rail engines 2008 onwards it is 112,500. There are recommended time intervals also as an old belt that has covered less mileage is still at some risk of failure.

    Cheers m8.

I'll be phoning around for some quotes anyhow but could you tell me roughly what price I should be expecting to pay for it doing at a garage?
