Hey Nemo, did they give any indication of why? Faulty part from manufacture or a design flaw. I hope the rest of us haven’t got this to look forward to. Fingers crossed it gets sorted ASAP. How about pushing for a discounted service plan? I know the dealer were happy to offer me around £100 off the first service. I’d be hoping for more than that given your disruption. Free first service custody of Audi HQ?

The fault was traced to the EGR cooler. Still no car back - the last part arrived on Friday and they've started rebuilding it so it should all be buttoned up on Wednesday, with the tracker guy booked to go to Audi to fit the new tracker battery (at Audi's expense) on Friday - I've had so many false dawns though that I'm not banking on it being done on this timeline! Genuinely I can't fault Edinburgh Audi, the have been great, it's just a culmination of the V8 diesel in the new engine being relatively new so part and experience are thin on the ground so everything was on "back order" and the Christmas / New Year holidays cost about three weeks of nothing happening on the car.

Edinburgh Audi were well aware of my unhappiness and my desire for compensation, but I thought the time was right to speak to Audi UK, who were again brilliant about it. The case manager called me on Thursday and said he'd spoken to the dealership and everyone was on the same page - he told me that compensation of some sort would "not be a problem", and suggested discussing it once the car was confirmed as fixed and back in my possession. Which makes sense I suppose then we know for sure how long I was without the car, etc. I'll be pushing for some sort of goodwill gesture from Edinburgh Audi too...I quite liked the running boards on the courtesy Q7 I had
MY17 SQ7, Sepang Blue, 22s, and lots of toys.
MY16 Passat Bluemotion GT, Reflex Silver, 19s, only a few toys.

Just an update - the car commenced being put back together last week. Just had an alert from the tracker to say the car has been started so they must have connected the car battery as the tracker backup battery is dead. Good news hopefully, and I'm primed to collect the car on Friday afternoon after the tracker engineer had installed the new battery at Audi on Friday morning (hopefully not another false dawn).

Audi UK have been brilliant about it and have sent £1,000 to my bank account as a good will payment. I think this is more than acceptable given that I've been kept in a Q7 for the vast majority of the time my own car has been in the dealership.

So, fingers crossed this for this Friday, although I'm a bit apprehensive of any gremlins left in the system after the car has been in bits for the best part of two months. Some liberal application of the right foot will be the order of the day however

To have been actually given a monetary compensation like that i think is an excellent outcome. Certainly would have expected it to take that form - more a free service(s) or parts type thing.

Cheers mate that’s what my immediate though was but currently trying to negotiate with the wife - no doubt she has other plans that probably involves Harvey Nichols’ handbag department.

Anyway the car was done, fully tested and certified as “sorted” on Thursday. The guy from Chameleon went to Audi to fit the new tracker battery yesterday BUT the car is now at Stirling Audi to get all the gizmos calibrated (ACC, cameras, park assist, lane departure warning etc. etc.) - Edinburgh Audi don’t have the calibration equipment but Stirling do (no idea why that is). Getting it back on Monday - exactly eight weeks to the day since it went in. Not too fussed to be honest as I’m away in Aberdeen with work until Thursday then off to Cardiff on Friday for the Wales vs Scotland Six Nations match and a long weekend on the lash, so I won’t have a chance to drive it for another week!

I had coolant warning light and same amount missing as on Gyro’s photos.
I have added around 1l of coolant few days ago. So far looks fine however if I get same once again I would go to the dealer to check.

tish - mine was a faulty EGR cooler. Keep an eye on the level and check for puddles. If the level drops and there are no puddles, chances are it could be a faulty EGR cooler like I had. Longer journeys will cause a bigger fluid drop in the coolant expansion tank.
