Clouds of black smoke issuing from my exhaust on all but the lightest accellerator settings. Have checked the air system though and replaced the air filter, no obvious faults and the turbo appears to work normally at idle. The idle is even and not much difference between injection quantities per stroke accross the cylinders ( measuring block 13 VCDS). Any suggestions?

    diesel filter ?

Take it onto a straight piece of road, keep the car in 2nd gear & boot it. Keep the revs just under the red in the revs for a few hundred yards

this should clear the rubbish out of the exhaust, restoring power & fuel economy

do this once in a blue moon
    VW POLO 2002 1.2 12v , Audi A6 2006 2.0 TDi SE , Skoda Fabia 1.4 TDi

All 3 cars in the current fleet

    No DPF

I should also add that it does this all the time not just on accelleration, just continuous moderate accellerator settings.

Thanks anyway, I'll give it a try.

The Fuel Filter I meant, not a DPF

My AWX did this a few months ago. After spending hours looking for splits in the intercooler hoses and looking on the web for clues and finding none i almost gave up but found a tiny visual indication that a hose had indeed started to blow-indicated by a tiny piece of white thread that the rubber hoses are reinforced with. There was just enough space to squeeze my small finger into the split but it was so tiny it was hardly visible. my split hose was the 'S' shaped one on the drivers side between the turbo and the spigot on the large steel intercooler tube. The clips are a PITA to remove, mind so it pays to have a torch and a helper to 'lift' the clip with a screwdriver while the clip is released. These hoses cost about £18 from China or go to any breakers if you want it sooner.

I’ve got a good proven source of these if anybody needs them. I’ll post the link up. Arrive next day, £20 and I’ve put them on a few Passats and sochave a few others off UKP. Good quality for the money. Fit straight in.
