Question a4 reversing lights not working

Hi, My cousin has an 02 Reg A4 130tdi without any reversing lights !
He’s checked the bulbs which are fine.
Does anybody have any ideas ?

Had the same issue on a MK4 golf same engine. It was the sensor in the gearbox that was faulty. Replaced it and the lights worked again. I'd check earths first to make sure there ok but it could be a sensor that needs changing.

Hi Lozzy90, Thanks for your reply. Doesn’t sound like an easy job changing a sensor. I’ll get a Haynes manual to help as well
Is yours a five speed or 6 speed box cos his is a 5 speed

It was an easy job and it was a 6 speed box, however the engine is placed differently in the A4 so not sure where it is or how accessible it is. Removing it is easy though, it's a simple swap job.
