I've been asking many questions about upgrading so apologies in advance if I'm sounding like a broken record!

Anyway, my current A6 (245) 3.0TDI quattro S-Line is now over 5yrs old, I tend to buy (not lease) and then sell and use it as a deposit for the next car. So I've put it for sale now (in the sale section on this forum if anyone wants to see what it looks like!).

I've considered a number of newer cars ranging from 5-series, E-Class, another A6, S6, S4 or A5. I keep coming back to the A6 and most likely a nearly new A6 (272) Quattro BE, I've seen a 2017 model for £37K which I will want to keep for 3-4years and then upgrade to the C8. Now my main worry is, considering the C8 is due end'18, am I likely to see a massive depreciation on the A6(272) that I purchase. My current car I spec'd massively and cost £60K and now it's only worth £13-£18K (trade, private) which I expected after 5yrs but I'm thinking will the A6(272) just plummet when the C8 is out and I'm throwing another £20K-£23K down the drain on upgrading?

I'm so confused to be honest, any advice will be most welcome and appreciated.

I'm about to do pretty much the same - trading in my 63 reg S Line against a 66 reg BE, and I always buy as I don't like paying interest or being fleeced by leasecos.

I took the view that I won't be able to afford a C8 for at least a year after the new one comes out, and that is probably 6 months away at least as they have only just released the new A7.

The market knows there is a new A6 not that far away, when I sold my C6 to buy my C7 it still held it's value pretty well.

So I am going to take the plunge and just negotiate as hard as I can on the deal.
Now: 2016 C7 2.0TDi BE with Tech Pack, magic parking, ambient lighting
    Previous: 2013 C7 2.0 TDi S Line
    C6 2.0 TDI LE
    A4 2.0 TDI SE
and an ancient 80 in the olden days...

What’s wrong with your current car? I’m not sure I see the point in upgrading to a newer version of the same car (albeit the face lifted version and more powerful engine) unless there’s something wrong or options missing from your current car, although it sounds like it is well specced... I would keep your current car, save the money, and and wait for the C8!

    Thanks nevbadger99 and robes401.

robes401 - You are so right! There is nothing wrong with my current car, it is better spec'd than the newer one (which lacks Tech Pack Advanced and Air Suspension), in fact after getting the lower pulley and ACC control module repaired under warranty I don't think (hope) there will be any more repairs to worry about.

I am getting more and more inclined towards keeping it, pocketing the car allowance I get and putting it towards a C8. Thanks so much for making sense...

Thanks for the advice, common sense has prevailed, I've taken my car off the 'Sale' section and am now going to look forward to the C8. Thanks once again.

Agreed- your car is "yours" and the new one will inevitably not have all the toys yours does. Keep it and just enjoy it ;-)

Based on the A7 info I think the C8 6 is going to be a great motor. That's what I'm holding out for

I was looking at replacing my MY14 A6 2.0 Ultra but not really committed, but was surprised at the discounts on nearly new deals. Reflects new model coming I guess. Ended up jumping in because mine although nothing wrong really, it was my first car to be taken away on an RAC low loader needing a new gearbox something or other. Covered under warranty, but then the rear passenger window refused to close, and the high beam assist camera gave up the ghost. I called it a Friday afternoon car, but it was just one of those things. Part ex was fine actually, in fact good, but deep discount on my new BE Quattro 2.0 A6 with less than 3k miles and 1 month old ( with tech pack and more) meant it worked for me. I think these cars are priced in for the new model whenever that will happen, and the key as always is to buy well, negotiate as hard as you can, but buy the car you want, not the first one you see - the right one will be out there at some point. They are all nice and shiny though...
