Golf Mk V FSI 1.6 Windscreen Wipers slowing

Hi all,

Started on my journey home yesterday and it was raining hard so put my wipers on after a few minutes on normal speed I noticed that the wipers started slowing down and then eventually stopped so I put them on fast and they started again before slowing down and stopping again. I then returned them to normal speed and they started working again for about 6 wipes and then stopped in the middle of the screen again. You get the picture. So whilst I managed to get home by flicking between normal and fast speed, there's obviously a problem there.

Has anybody encountered this problem before?

probally new motor needed as brushes away

or a loose nut where wiper arm attaches to motor
