I've also just emailed Pirelli and Audi to see if the 275/40r21 all season tyres they sell would be ok. The rims are 9.5 wide and all the charts online show 275 being the ideal size, with 285 actually being the absolute max. So I can't see any reason why not.

Some cars actually state you should get 10mm less width on winters, but Audi's handbook doesn't really say anything.

I'm sure if I just put those on it would be ok, but I don't really want to do it without the ok from either Audi or Pirelli.

Finally I have an option, I'll wait a couple of weeks and see if the 285's do ever materialise, if they don't I'll fit the below. I feel that an e-mail from Pirelli is good enough if Audi or an insurance company try and wriggle out of a claim for the minor change in size.

Edit. I tried to copy and paste the email from Pirelli that said 275/40r21 was fine, but the format isn't compatible with this forum.

I have posted the e-mail on audiworld as well, as the yanks seem more interested in the all season tyres.

Looks Ike them fitted is just short of £300 each. Good stuff.

So the 285's definitely don't exist, so I'll probably go ahead and buy the 275's.

"Hi Alex, thank you for your patience. We've taken a look at this one and there is not currently a Verde All Season available in that size in the UK market. Our standard Scorpion Verde fitment is Original Equipment for Audi and has the (AO) marking.

We've found various sites apparently selling a Verde All Season in the UK however we believe these to be misinformed and are selling the wrong product. We will try to ensure this is corrected. Kind regards, the Pirelli Social Media Team"

Given you tried so hard (thanks) I've given up on those too. Plumped instead for the Nokian WR SUV3 winter tyres as they do a 285/40R21 and ATS will fit and tyre hotel my worn-ish summer Pirelli Scorpion Verdes.

I would do the same, but my expenditure is getting out of control. Just put £1600 worth of winter wheels and tyres on my BMW as well. I want to buy all seasons and sell my summers to pay for most of it.

American buyers are now speccing and getting delivery of Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season tyres on their cars in 285/40r21. On the uk website for Pirelli these are now showing, and the Scorpion Verde in that size have just appeared as well, since my email from them stating that they don't exist.

I can't find them for sale anywhere though. I've now sent to Pirelli customer service photos of the exact tyre the US have on their cars and links to the two listings on their own website asking where I can buy them. Still no answer.

I can't stop now, too much effort gone into my search

Well I spent a bit less on my used Q7 that I was potentially budgeting for, so a few extras here and there is nice. Anyway I can't wear down two sets of tyres at once so the only real extra is the hotel and fitting fees.

May the reinforced tyres be with you, always.

I get that, but with 5 holidays booked between now and next August, plus the £1600 already spent on the beemer, I just don't have the cash to put in up front. In reality, with this brand new car, probably wouldn't need new tyres for 2-3 years.

Fair point Chesterfield. Anyway got the Nokian's fitted today, not a bad deal all in all. Next day delivery from Camskill and they are on at £301 each right now, minus a £10 voucher discount each for 4 currently. Then had ATS swap them over and tyre hotel the summers for £100. No discernible increased road noise so far on a quick bit of M-way home.
