Okay have now downloaded VCDS and have someone codes.

00920 something to do with heated mirrors

01598 drive battery voltage. Signal too low

    00906 horn

    00975 heated rear window

    01044 control module incorrectly coded
I think this is the radio code.

01309 power steering control module (j500) no communication _intermittent

00778 steering angle sensor (g85) no communication

    00566 steering assistance operation
    Implausible signal _intermittent

    00816 power steering sensor (g250)
Open or short to plus _intermittent

    00779 outside air temperature sensor

    00588 airbag igniter drives side

    01321 control module for airbag

Alot I know only really interested with the steering problem for now.

I has a quick Google around the steering sensor and it mentions about the wheel being straight and both front wheels pointed forward, my steering wheel has to be at 9 o'clock for the front wheels to be pointing forward.

Any help would be much appreciated i have no idea what to do first.

First thing I would do is disconnect battery wheels in the straight ahead position. Remove airbag remove steering wheel. Put steering wheel back on in the straight ahead position and fit airbag. Connect the battery. Erase all the faults . Turn steering full left and hold then full right and hold then drive it forwards upto 30 mph. Re check faults come post whats there. If steering is still heavy remove nsf bumper grille or fog lamp whatever is fitted and check the power supply at the pump and make sure you have a good earth. Middle plug with large wires.

Okay so I've done what you advised wheels straight disconnected the battery steering wheel off, back on the the correct position reconnected the battery and cleared the codes, all the way to the left and hold then the right hand side and drove it.

Still have the same codes as before for the power steering a few have gone like the airbag and mirrors.

Still the steering isn't working correctly, I noticed after the test drive the was oil leaking from the front bumper so removed the wheel arch liner and the fog light to have a look.
There's oil leaking from the pump somewhere I can't tell where as it's covered in oil, firstly I have the part number from the pump and it's 6Q0423156AB I know it was changed by the previous owner and didn't fix the problem so he abandoned it but as said before he just simply got a pump never checked any numbers. Looking at what you said before about my number should be it doesn't match.

On the vcds the pump vag number is the same 6Q0423156AB so I take it its taking to it some how, or could this be the correct pump?

I then looked at the angle sensor as I thought it was new it isn't in fact the plug at the rack end is broken it can just simply be pulled off.

Now onto the power feed I didn't check there was power to the pump I'll do that tomorrow, but I was really struggling to get an earth tred on a few places can't seem to find a reading, I'll check that again was it was raining and I didn't want to be outside too long 😂.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to replace the pump first but don't want to order anything until I get advice from you.

    Thanks
    Jordan

This pumps code 00110 is i think the heaviest setting . Can you post measured values in steering. ? Its probably the best way for me to spot an anomoly.

You could change it to 00150 which should be the maximum lightest. From memory they leave the factory on 00140.

How would I go about getting measured values? I'm new to this software. Also can I just click on that code and change it?

I've completely removed the pump now as I was certain it was wrong.
Would it be possible to just ring vw and ask them what the original part number is? I can simply just buy the correct pump then.

You could but they dont like giving out part numbers. Worth a try. You could just plug the pump back in . Go to steering. Click measured values and photo the values on your phone and to post them here.

Okay ☹️ I'll have to get some new fluid then tomorrow.
What if I just got a steering rack and pump from the same vehicle would that be an easy fix? Or is it still a problem with part numbers?

No .. dont bother with the fluid. Just plug it back in . Take the measured values and post them. Put pipes back on. Takes a few mins. Your only going to start it it will be ok.
