Hi, I've noticed sometimes driving around in my 2009 B8 2.0 TDI 170PS S-Line, the gear suggester shows incorrect as in, it'll ask me to downshift when doing less than 1.500 rpm and not asking to upshift before around 2.500 rpm or higher. It happens from time to time and goes back to normal again after a while, but I'm also noticing the Turbo spool is sounding louder when it happens, as if the Turbo is kicking in early to accelerate normally without putting my foot to the floor.

It does however drive normally from what I can tell and no warnings or anything is showing up.

Any suggestions or similar experience, let me know. Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

    Hi there

Mine does this, and I would say it’s normal. I am almost certain this happens when the DPF is regenerating. Your car is encouraging you to keep revs as high as possible, and therefore the temperature as high as possible to make it easier for the DPF to regen.

You may notice it feels hot around the car when you get out, and is making heat “ticking” noises more as well.

Whilst I don’t know if the Turbo working harder is also a factor, a lot of strange things happen during a regen, for example I notice my revs are quite bit a higher at traffic lights and the engine sounds a bit rougher. This is all completely normal.

Thanks! This makes sense since I haven't had any warnings or driving issues at all. Also checked with VCDS and no faults was logged either, so hopefully it's just what you described there.

I turned the gear suggestion off after I found myself talking to the car telling it that I didn’t want to change gear thank you very much and to stop telling me what to do.
