I've noticed most Q7's (including mine) are specced up with this free option: "Fuel tank - 85 litres wth AdBlue tank - 24 litres"

I am wondering if anything is sacrificed in terms of space if you go for this option - I mean, why would you go for the smaller tank, does it mean there is room for a space saver spare tyre or something?

The larger additive tank was introduced because of the emissions hoo hahh, in a little known episode of said silliness, they had reduced the sheep wee consumption so it would last the service interval as they were scarred Americans would be irritated about topping it up.

I agree, what's the point? My stock car only has the standard size. Why? I can't think of a good reason someone would want to fill up more.

When I got mine it was an optional extra you had to pay for. I do low mileage so didn’t bother. If you do a lot of miles I could see the benefit I suppose.

Only downside I can think of is the extra c.20kg of liquid you’re carting around if you don’t need it.

If it was free I’d have kept it!

I'd understand the 20kg benefit in a small sports car, but not in a giant SUV. Once they made it a no cost option, it should have just been standard IMO.

Maybe they've still got a batch to get rid of that they committed to with a manufacturer.

It was actually the fuel tank I was referring to not the wee tank! :-) If you opt for the standard (ie smaller) tank I just wondered if that left room for a spacesaver? I guess not as I can't see a spacesaver listed in any specs anywhere .

Sorry, just got your point. Dealers are spec’ing cars without the zero cost option that has no real downside. Agree, madness....

I'm not sure it matters since July17, mine was specked without and I phoned up when I realised only to be told all 18models were fitted with larger tank as standard which makes sense as why would Audi want to complicate their parts supply chain by having 2 different tanks? Mine came with the 85l tank. In terms of downside, the extra £20 it add to filling up at the pumps!

Ive had both 75 and 85 litre

bigger fuel tank tbh don’t make much difference to me unless you do loads of miles a week it doesn’t matter
if your on a bugget and fill up weekly and like to fill to the top each fill up can cost around £12 extra

but for me anyway although not a big one each adblue fill up was around 3000 miles give or take

but with the bigger tank am at 5000 and not filled up yet so for this alone I’m glad I have the bigger tank
like I said it’s not that much bother either filling up yourself (get the proper Audi genuine adblue hose) or pop into an Audi dealer (have done both)
normal they only charge for what’s filled up per litre or vist a fuel station

but for me just glad of having the bigger tank and seems to work for me better

there is no real poss or negative it’s just something you have to do less (12000 miles per year smaller adblue tank 4 fills per year bigger adblue tank prob 2 fills per year) just my view every one is different
