Stumbled upon this one today. Not really directly related to our cars but gives me some comfort...

Very interesting article - thanks for posting.

The bit that is missing is "how" people like Nissan are gaming the system. I cannot believe that it is simply the slow acceleration / deceleration of the (now old) emissions test... you just gotta believe they have some kind of "defeat device" that VW got caught using. The ability to pass the 0.08g/km NoX test and then produce 1.46g/km in real world testing just smells rotten.

Good to see that both Merc and VW actually have engines out there that pass muster in real world testing too...

So, there was a good read about Fiat some time back on one of the other forums I read (dedicated to IT security rather than cars): somebody actually reverse engineered part of their ECU and it appeared that it also had a cheat code - simply to do with the angle of the steering wheel (you cannot really go wild on the rolling road, can you).
And nobody crucified them (or Chrysler) for that matter... That tells me enough.

The thing is all these German/European cars use pretty much the same parts and manufacturers for injectors, ecu etc.
You will probably find that they are made by Siemens, Bosch or Denso so if one has cheated they all probably cheated.
It’s like the airbags thing that turned into a global recall; the manufacturer pretty much supplied almost every manufacturer in the world with their airbags.

Really pleased to see how clean the BiTdi engine is.

Interesting read, until I found my 272 is rated 'E' so 6 times the limit. I see the S6 is A+ though. Great reason to choose that next!

Am I missing something? I couldn't find the Air Quality data for either the S6 or the BiTDi, and only the MPG data for the BiTDi. I'm interested as I have a 2013 BiTDi, and am considering an S6....
