MY OH's 2004 1.6 keeps randomly showing fault 16497, which indicates a MAF problem. I decided to investigate, found what I thought was the MAF sensor, but the part number (06B906051) indicates its a MAP sensor.

Before I went any further, I thought I'd check the wiring and it would seem that the yellow wire is broken (see picture) this leads to two questions...

    1) Is the MAP sensor the same as the MAP in this older car ? Would it throw the same code?

    2) If so is it just a simple case of stripping back the wire and resoldering? The yellow cable seems different in that it comes from what looks like blue heatshrink sleeving, is there some sort of component under the sleeving? Do I need to disconnect the battery before doing so?

    Any help gratefully received

    Thanks K

That blue sleeve is from a previous repair. Best to remove the terminal from the plug, renew terminal and yellow wire. If you cant get correct type from the likes of Maplins etc. you can get repair wires from the dealers which come fitted with the terminal to suit.

Thanks Alan, for the reply, I suspected as much, have done a temporary soldered repair, 50 miles on no lights or codes showing and its running much better. Will order terminal and wire at the weekend.
