The big air vent opposite the passenger

Hi, I can't seem to get the big air vent (opposite the front passenger) to do anything.

I've selected Open from the climate control, different temps, fan speeds, directions, etc. but nothing I've done so far seems to make it do anything.

I mentioned it when it was in for service and was told that it was "non-functioning trim" i.e. forget about it, it's for display purposes only!

I'm not sure I buy that as there's a control for it to be open or closed.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes I have the same issue doesn't seem to function. Was going to mention when goes in for a service. It is described as a "diffuser vent" but have never felt anything out of it?
