Had the car at the local gearbox mechanic at 115000 km to repair some grinding noise that appeared with gear in neutral, letting the clutch pedal back up. Apparently there was a needle bearing on one of the gear shaft plus another bearing on the input shaft that was faulty. The mechanic showed me the faulty parts when finished. the bearings was shot. He told me this was more of a "normal procedure" with these boxes. At the same time i changed the clutch and release bearing.

Now Everything has been fine for 30000km until the other day i couldnt get the gears in. Starting the car with clutch pedal down and first gear engaged is fine but as i went from first to second nothing happened, couldnt go back to first either, with a little force i could get third in, the car then is slooowly dragging even with clutch down. Stopping the engine, shifting gears, restarting the engine and everything is fine again.
This has now happened several times.

Spoke to the same mechanic and he is telling me some shaft in the gearbox is spinning even if i press the clutch down, this shaft has came loose and needs to be changed.
Has anyone else had this problem and can tell me whats going on? What shaft?

The mechanic is a specialist in gearboxes and does repairs for a living. i dont doubt his wrong but its hard to understand what he means..

With the clutch pedal down, the Input shaft on the gearbox would not turn providing the clutch was operating correctly. It seems to me that the clutch cover is not clearing the driven plate and is transmitting drive to the gearbox. The way you describe what your mechanic has said regarding a `loose shaft`, I can only assume he is describing an issue with the input shaft? Either way, the gearbox will have to be removed to investigate.
    Alan.
