    Hi all

needed a new car and have come back to VW and a Golf. A 2003 VR5 3 door to be specific. Now this car seems to have a few issues, but the one i want to talk about here is the central locking. First off, neither of the key fobs i have work. I changed the battery and no joy. So how do I lock the car? I assumed the drivers door would have a key hole. It doesn’t. Under the plastic cover is just a solid metal plate. So I thought the boot door would lock all the doors. Nope, only locks the back door.
but when in the car, if I press the armrest button to lock the doors, both front doors will lock or unlock. (So central locking sort of works).

do any of you guys have any idea what could be wrong and how I fix it? Really want to lock my car!

    thanks

    James

It should have a keyhole on drivers door, so at some point it's been delocked with a blanking plate. You need the remote fobs to work so they need re-synchronising to the car. If the driver's door lock wasn't blanked you could use the two key method to try it yourself, do a search online for mk4 golf key fob synchronisation to see what I mean. There videos on YouTube or search on ukmkivs. If you can remove the blanking plate and use a flat blade screwdriver to physically turn what's left behind to simulate the key being turned it would be possible.
Failing that you need help from someone with Vagcom or similar to getting the remotes to work.
