Been driving up and down the m6 for the past few weeks and noticed a few things.
Saw quite a few Audi’s with drls not working and in the dark rear lights and headlights not working. These were 65-67 plate cars and it’s not just Audi’s. BMWs, Mercs etc were all the same.
Has car manufacturing gone down hill? I expect them to be better in modern manufacturing environments with robots etc doing most of the work so human errors is somewhat negated.
Touch wood mines given me little bother other than warped discs but I was astonished to see so many new ish cars with problems already.
2015 272 saloon Fl, lighting pack, 19" 10 spoke alloys, electric boot, memory seat with folding mirrors, tech pack, silver leather interior and privacy glass.

    I know what you mean

i see loads of Mercs, Vauxhalls and VW’s with non-working DRL’s and or headlight bulbs

Don’t get me started on those who can’t use their foglights or main beams correctly........I hate this time of year.......

You get all the muppets on the m6. Had a guy overtake me with just his drl on in the pitch dark and everyone was flashing him. No rear side lights on or anything. It’s just not cool. Lights are there to help you see and help others see you.
Fog lights is my biggest pet hate. It’s in the name FOG-lights. If it’s not foggy why you using them.

Yup. See that all the time too. People don’t pay attention to the conditions. Quite often I come across cars in the rain which don’t have any lights on and you don’t spot until you are practically on top of them

One of the only reasons I'm glad I've halogen headlights. See so many led DRLs that are dead, extensive replacing the whole headlight.

I have to say - When I went from Halogen to Xenon - I said to myself I would never go back. I then got my A6 2015 with LED lighting - again I would never now go back...not even to Xenon if I had the choice...I am now in an A7 with matrix LED....I would probably go without matrix if I had to...but ideally no.

With the DRL - Unsure why so many are without...maybe non-Audi "off" mode has them off altogether? I have a colleague who hates the fact her car leaves them on even when the light switch is set to 0. In her case, 0 should be all off, sides = drl and then all on is all on. I think where they're off, its probably user error where there is manual intervention needed for DRL rather than an auto-switching system...I may be wrong however

Also with LED, maybe there is a heat issue with the various resistors burning them out?

We also have the option on when to have them on...early/ mediums / late or whatever it is...maybe by default a lot are set to Late?

Or all the above is wrong and people are just idiots for not turning / fixing / ensuring they work :- )

Id agree that the build quality of modern cars seems to have really dropped off over the past 5 years or so; my e46 3 series seemed much better made than my friends e92 and my 2015 c7 A6 seems "soft" in comparison to my old b5 A4.

Could it be to do with paring away as much material as possible to make cars lighter and thus more economical and cheaper to manufacture as less base material is required?

Could be a requirement to use recycled materials in modern cars that make them a bit crap.

Part of me would love LEDs and I did really want them this time but I found the car I wanted ready built without them so compromised.

The ones I'm thinking are those with one led DRL on and not the other. It would do my head in only having one running light on.

The thing is I dont think these owners know that one of their lights isn’t working front or rear.
Till someone tells them or a warning come on the dash they will be oblivious to it. Unlike a busted headlight where you will notice in the dark the drl does very little in lighting up the road
