    hi all,*
i have a mk5 golf 2.0 tdi with the bkd engine, only bought it a few weeks ago and it has cut out on me twice, when it does cut out the*engine*will crank over but wont fire back up again the only way it will start is on easy start and then i switch it on and off again and its fine untill 400 miles later and it cuts out again, again i had no fault codes and it started up on easy start.
when it is running it drives perfect as it should do, i have changed the*fuel*filter, tandem pump, used diffrent fuel with a*fuel line cleaner*each time i fill up but i dont know where to go from here as i have no fault codes and when its running its perfect. please help*
    many thanks

Sounds like low pressure supply issue. Can you check supply pressure when fault present, ie non-start condition?

    hi thanks for the reply,
cant check supply presure untill it cuts out again, would the fuel pump in the tank cause the car to cut out when slowing down at junctions?

hi just an update i have now changed the fuel pump in the tank for a new one, i have found that it only cuts out when driving down the motorway at high revs for about 15mins around 3500rpm then when you shift it to neutral the revs drop and then it cuts out, yet again wouldnt start untill i put easy start then it fired up, unable to see what the pressure is for the fuel as its always on the hard shoulder when breaking down and i need to start it to get home,
any ideas would be very appreciative

I had this years ago with a Peugeot 305. It turned out that the breather hose from the fuel tank had become blocked by a build up of mud or road dirt. Consequently on longer journeys a vacuum built up in the fuel tank which caused symptoms like running out of fuel or fuel starvation. On undoing the fuel filler cap there would be a slight hiss as air rushed in and the car would then run normally. On short runs there was no real problem.

The cure was to clean out the end of the breather hose.
